A Shared Health Record (SHR) holds a subset of a patient's electronic health record in order to facilitate sharing of this information between disparate health information systems. This page contains the documentation produced by the Shared Health Record Community group under the OpenHIE project.

For more details about our call that are held twice a month, see: Shared Health Record Community Call

Process Overview

As a part of the RHEA project, an HIE has been developed for maternal health in Rwanda. For more information about this implementation see this link. During this implementation, a Shared Health Record (SHR) based on OpenMRS (http://openmrs.org/) was developed. It is expected to work for the pilot implementation of the RHEA project, which is planned to run in a single district of Rwanda; however, it is not known whether this instance and the technology used will scale to a national level.

As a part of the OpenHIE project, this community is tasked with reviewing and evaluating the question of what makes a good SHR going into the future, and seeks to determine what technologies would be suitable for an SHR in OpenHIE. The end goal is to provide a recommendation of whether we should use/modify an existing technology or built something ourselves.

SHR Evaluation Methodology

This section shows the methodology for going through the process of evaluating options for a Shared Health Record. As we work on each of these items, links will be added to the relevant documentation that shows the current active work regarding that item. The status of items being working on is displayed in brackets next to them. See this link for the original legacy google doc.
