During this demo we will share both patients and their clinical documents to the HIE and fetch these details using a completely separate system. This shows how continuity of care can be achieved between independent systems using the OpenHIE workflows.

OSCAR - Create a patient and share it with the HIE

Next we will add some clinical document to our patient and share them with the HIE. Navigate to the record of the patient that you just created. You may have to search for them by name. Now click on the Add Document link on the bottom left .

of their record. Now, choose a document type and enter a title for the document, these may anything that you wish. Next you will need to upload a clinical document to share. OSCAR only support sharing of document of type pdf at this stage so choose a pdf file, choose a document class and click add. Wait for the document to upload.

Next, check the box next to the document that you just uploaded (only document of type pdf have a checkbox) Next, select the document that you wish to share and click on the share button on the bottom right. ..A new screen will appear where you may choose to add the document to a folder and assign a consent policy. You can leave the folder option blank, but you must choose a consent policy to continue. Choose, 'clinical-staff' as the policy and click 'Send', then 'Confim'. The document will now be uploaded to the HIE and made available via the SHR.

OpenMRS - Patient import

While viewing the patient in the point of care system choose the HIE Document tab. Here you wiill will be able to see the document documents that are available in the SHR for that patient. From here you may choose to view or import document as you please. You should see the document that you created in OSCAR. Import this document. You should now be able to see the document under the patient's encounters on the dashboard.
