Overview
The period before 2010 was largely characterized by efforts to digitalize information collation with the introduction of District Health Information System 2 (DHIS2) and Care and Treatment Card (CTC) database for HIV. It was the period during which the government established ICT units within MOH as a dedicated section to oversee the introduction of electronic systems within the ministry and across the sector.
Between 2011 and 2020, efforts included ensuring there is appropriate governance mechanism and structures to coordinate the digital transformation journey and digitalization of supply chain management (eLMIS, VIMS, MSD Epicor 9) and point of care systems (GOTHOMIS, AfyaCare and TimR)
Since 2021, the government is rapidly building the foundation that was created in the previous decade to digitize other areas of the sector including community health services and facility supervision. Enterprise architecture blueprint was developed to provide guidance and standards in the investments and development of digital systems in the health sector and facilitates information exchange.
