Open Questions
1. Who are relevant stakeholders to build a governance model for OpenHIE?
  • Answer (Steven): What about sustainability? How much is the the ministry prepared to employ IT staff to run and sustain these systems? How much will donors or implementers continue to stay involved. We really need a vision of where we want to go. These systems (health IT systems) are some of the most complex and also expensive to operate over time.
  • Answer (Liberia MoH): It's important to include the regulators as well. They will take ownership of this; they will acredit institutions. Also the telecommunication authority.
  • Answer (Rwanda MoH): Include the academic and research institutions. Also the private sector.
  • Answer (Malawi MoH): In Malawi, there is a unit (CMED) for information systems. It has technical working groups, including a Data Standards group. That gathers implementers to come and share information.
2. What roles can private sector play in OpenHIE governance?
3. What policies, strategies and other documents should guide the continued development?
4. What are other key considerations for success?
